  1. I used the voice memo on my phone and picked up some stuff. You can use just a regular taper recorder. Never mid I think Spooky is right. I just used a regular recorder. I am an idiot when it comes to this though!!

  2. The group of people I know have good luck with cheap digital voice recorders. You can get a Memorex one for about $20 and it seems to work fine, I think it's a model 2054 or 2059, that a friend has and it sounds good, has picked up a lot of EVP's.  Also check out a free program called Audacity for playing your EVP's in to your computer.  Then you can play with some of the controls and get better sound quality.

I have a Olympus and others have Sony's and I think the cheaper ones work just as good.

Also there ore other devices like the Raudive Diode you can build or buy online, that replace the microphone and are reported to work better.  I just built one and will try it out at our next ghost hunt.  see----

You might want to review this whole site it has a lot of good info on equipment from cameras to EVP's and EMF.

Good luck and if you have any other questions email me, I have a background in electronics and camera systems, and I am the tech adviser for our ghost hunter group.

  3. No you don't need to buy special equipment, you just use you television or radio for white noise and then just listen.Oh if you don't know what white noise is it is where you can't recieve a channel and you get thet crackling sound. x

  4. No, EVPs can be captured by any type of voice recorder

Of course you will prolly get better EVPs if the recorder is good quality. Some recorders might make it hard to hear the EVPs clearly. So I recommend buying a good voice recorder to do research with.

    Hope that helps you

  5. No, anybody with a handheld recorder can get these. Just walk around with the recorder and ask spirit questions. Then transfer it to computer and play with it. I'm sure you'll hear all sorts of random noises that might sound like words if you're imaginative.

  6. no any recorder is able to pick them up.  Most people do prefer to use a recorder that is transferable to a computer via usb so that they might clean them up and save them, but no need no special equipment to do it.

  7. Yes.  A good digital recorder and an open mind.

  8. Anything that can recored voices or noises.. If the voice is low you might need something to clean the EVP..

Tape records are one of the best for some reason don't know if it is something about the tape getting more then other things..

You might try white noise to also help you.. Alot of people believe if you use white noise you get better recordings..

  9. We have caught numerous amounts of EVP on various different pieces of equipment. We use devices like voice activated recorders, memo recorders and even most mp3 players have a voice record function. Some of the scariest EVPs we have caught were off regular mp3 players! EVPs can be caught on ANY audio recording device, even the audio on cameras. (which we have also caught) People who are really into the EVP side of the paranormal tend to be more successful in recording what is known as "white noise" or static. This is achieved through recording either detuned televisions or detuned radios. For more in depth information about EVPs, go to www.whitenoise.co.uk, www.myspace.com/oceanicparanormalsociety or check out the DVD White Noise with Michael Keaton.

  10. Check out ebay where you can get a digital recorder along with free software for hearing them. Type in ghost hunting and you will get a few pages with stuff on it. This one guy sells recorders with the same program ghost hunters use on there show to clean up the recordings. I believe it comes witha USB cord as well. about 30-65$ depending on what model you get and the software is a free bee
