I have a 1985 Honda Magna 700cc V45 etc... The bike runs great around town and on the high way. I've owned the bike for 4 years, and I've serviced it (heavy duty tuneup, new clutch, new fork seals, brakes etc..)..

I've noticed however, when I'm on 5th gear on the highway (my highest), I can't get passed 6000 RPM. I'm 6ft2, and weight 190 lbs. Since I don't have a speedometer, I can only guess my speed. I believe at 4000 RPM i'm going 65mph, 5,000 RPM i'm going 75mph, and 6000 RPM 85?

I'm wondering if this is a carb issue. Because the supposed top speed of the 700cc Magna is around 120 mph.

What do you think?

  2. It's not a very big motor in that bike.. It is also an engine that likes to rev. It doesn't have a lot of torque. Does laying down over the 'bars help?

You are a fairly tall bloke and you would get a lot of wind resistance. I think you are simply expecting too much from a small bike. Another thing is, try putting a speedo back on it, you are probably going faster than you think. It might save you a few tickets too... LOL
