If you are planning to go out of the country soon, I suggest that you do get a new passpport now as wait times have been getting longer.

If it doesn't expire for another year, why would you need a new passport? Sorry - Non comprendo!

If your passport expires within 12 months, apply for and get a new one now. Some countries won't allow you in with 6 months left. Also due to new passport requirements for Mexico and Canada travel, the wait is 5-6 months at best.

I would apply for a new one when less than a year is left. No later than six months remaining.

It takes time to process the paperwork.
