Do i need to give them my expired passport to apply for a new 1?

my canadian passport has been expired for over 4 yrs now.

do i still need to include it with my application?

im getting a new passport, not renewing it..

It speeds up the process. They will return your old one.

There is no passport renewal. When one expires, you have to go through the full application process every time. And yes, they want your old one though you can request it be returned afterwards.
