  1. with No Child Left Behind-many districts are requiring paras to ahve 48-60 college credits--

    there is an alternate route available that involves taking a standardized test-in my area that is generally only used for people that were already employed when teh new law started-

    sometimes you can get a job as a personal aid to a student with severe physical needs


  2. No, in my district, it is not required, however the more experience, the higher your degree and your work history can help you earn more money. Also, due to the amount of paperwork and meetings, many special education teachers end up becoming a para because they just want to work with the students and avoid all the paperwork and meetings.  if you are looking for something that makes you feel like you are doing something good for someone, this is the job for you...

  3. No.  In my district you have to have a high school diploma and pass a basic skills test.
