Do i need to have dial-up to get a fax machine?

I never had a fax machine, I dont know how to connect one or get a contract with fax companies, I has high speed internet from comast but i dont have a house phone, so i purchased a fax machine, can i connect to my high speed internet modem or do i have to have dial-up phone serivce? if i can connect to high speed modem, how do i do it? thanks

  1. You can just use your Internet to fax. You don't need to purchase a phone line or a fax machine. Faxes are sent and received from your email account. They look just like regular faxes. For more information go to http://www.myfax.com.


  2. If you are using a standalone fax machine, you do not need any sort of internet service, either dial-up or DSL, nor do you require any sort of special fax contract with a company to use it.

    All you need is a regular telephone line.  You simply plug the fax machine into the line in the same way as you would a normal telephone.  To send a fax, the machine simply dials the telephone number you enter and waits for the fax machine at the distant end on that number to answer.  As far as the telephone company is concerned, it is no different from making a normal phone call to that number -- It's just that instead of sending voices down the line your fax machine sends tones.
