Do i need to participate in american idol?

i'm an iranian and i want to audition for american idol. is it possible to audition for it without being a citizen? because i heard carly smithson had a problem with her visa when she audition in season 5.

Woowww. You are very brave if you participate there. Remember, us govt hate the Iranian nuclear plants and keep accusing your country create a nuke weapon. Is it even likely you can get a visa to be in USA ?
