I took my bike CBT test back in January 2003. I passed my car driving test in July 2004. Do i need to retake my CBT test if i am going to ride a moped, or can i ride it with out retaking it? Would i require L-plates on the moped as well?

  1. No you can not ride a moped on a car license! as you have taken your C.B.T in 2003 that would of expired by now as it only last for 2 years.

  2. If you pass your car driving test whilst your DL196 is still current or complete a CBT course and obtain a DL196 after passing your car test, the certificate is not subject to expiry, you will therefore need to keep your DL196 certificate safely. Please note that this applies to mopeds only, for riding motorcycles as a learner the DL196 remains valid for two years.  You will still need L plates, refrain from carrying a passenger and avoid motorways.

  3. I passed my bike test 8 yrs ago so things might have changed since then. But a CBT used to last 2yrs then u had to get ur license .Yes you will need l plates on ur moped.Unless you pass your full bike test then u don't need plates on any bike.
