Question:

Do i need to study design to work in the fashion industry?

i'm picking my subjects for year 11 next year, and i'm seriously considering doing textiles and design. I want to work in the fashion industry when i leave school, but not as a designer. I want to work in the business side of it (e.g. marketing, managing).

i'm hoping to study design in fashion and texiles at university. It focuses a lot on design, but also a lot on the business side of it. It says its not just for designers, but for people who want to work in the industry.

Although I wish i was, i'm not very good designing. however i LOVE fashion, and can't see myself working in any other area. do you think this is the right way to go at it? or am i better off doing a plain business degree?

(by the way, I'm also taking business studies and economics for my HSC.)

thanks for your help!

  1. of course you should study design..there are courses that help you prepare for the fashion industry..then yet again, some of the people who became successful in the field never had formal schooling. all they had were inspiration, ideas and sheer will. but study if you must and go get your glory!
