  1. In the UK yes - the clue's in the question - Compulsory Basic Training  ; )

However, if you intend to take up riding as more than just an occasional thing, it's definately worth doing the full test (expensive though).

  2. Yes I'm afraid so! I ride a Bandit 600, but started on a Suzuki GP 100cc twin stroke........loved it!

  3. yes, this certificate is to prove you have the basic skills required to use and control a bike on the road, you then have 2 years from the date passed to take your full bike licence and be able to ride other bikes of just a 125

if you dont you will have to re-take your cbt every 2 years to be allowed to continue using your 125  so its worth doing the full test just so your not having to re take ever again

  4. Yes, and dont consider it a chore.  Bikes and cars are not the same.  Your road sense accumulated from driving will be useful to you but you need to understand lots that you wont know unless someone tells you.  CBT should be easy for you and the trainers will not waste much time getting you on the road once they see that you can riode the bike reasonably.  If by any chance you have trouble with the CBT, that means you woudl not be safe on the road.  best way to find out I think!

If you are eligible, do the full direct access course.  A great way to learn and after a couple of years on sensible first big bikes, I now have a wonderful Aprilia RSV.  Do it and get one!

  5. yes,worst luck...but good luck!
