Do i need to take a driving course to get my drivers license?

i live in new york state and im 17, i have my learners permit. my dad signed me up for this 5 hour driving course next week and he said that i need to take some kind of driving course in order to get my full license. is this true?...that you must take a driving course (im not talking about drivers ed) in order to get ur license in ny? my dad had my sisters take a course too before doing their road test

unless ur parents or somebody else can teach u...then yes you do because it is the only way you will learn how to drive properly and become prepared to take the road test. the people that test you during the road test do not play around. if u run a red light, bump the curve while parking, run a stop sign, or any little mistake, they will fail you......thats the reason to taking the lessons so you can learn to avoid that stuff=]
