Do i need to use a ring spreader to put new rings on the piston?

  1. most any tool aside from wrenches and s***w drivers and the like you don't actually HAVE to have... they just make things a whole lot easier, alot safer, alot quicker or some combination of the three...


  2. They can be installed without a ring spreader so long as you know what you're doing and are careful about it. But, a ring spreader, which is not very expensive, is good insurance against breaking a ring or damaging a piston.
