Have a PPO with 1000 deductible. Had an exam and doctor ordered a genetic test to see if I had a specific condition. Got a notice(not a bill) from Blue Cross, the lab that ran tests charged 450.00 insurance authorized 38.00. Since Quest is billing 450 will i be billed for difference or does doctor office absorb difference based on contract with insurance...Top it off only 38.00 goes toward deductible not 450.00

  1. The rest of that bill is yours. We all have  bad insurance my deductible is $1500.00

  2. Wait until you hear from the lab. Just because they charge $450 doesn't mean you have to pay that. BCBS may have a contract with Qwest that states they will only pay $38 for that test for their insureds. You can call BCBS and ask them, but I'm guessing that if you owe anything, it will be $38 that BCBS applied toward your deductible. That $38 would be paid to the lab.

  3. $38 will be paid by you, to Quest. The balance will be written off by Quest. That's their "discount" No one pays it.

  4. Just call your insurance company they are the only ones that can anwer your questions! Insurance today is B.S
