  1. Are you talking about MLA citation?  

    Are you citing a quotation?  If so, it's quotation, quotation mark, line number, then period.  Example:

    ...the grass is singing/Over the tumbled graves” (“Wasteland” 609).


  2. It would be:    ." (185)

    The period always goes inside the quotation marks.  The reference in parenthasis comes after the sentence and needs no further punctuation.

  3. You put the full stop at the end of the sentence; then the reference.Since a reference is not a sentence, it does not need a period.
