My cat has ear mites, i just used a q-tip to clean out the "dirt looking stuff" I didn't shove it down it's ear or anything, though. should I use the ear mite medicine and drip some drops in it's ear, if so how many? my kitten is about 4 months old.

The girl at the vet didn't say anything..we just went and bought the meds didn't go in the office...

  1. The bottle should have instructions.  What I had for my cat we had to put a drop or two in her ear.

  2. Was this medicine perscription medicine?  Or did you buy it somewhere else?

If it is a perscription, read the bottle and that should give directions.  If you bought it at a store, check the container, it should tell you how much.

The medicine I use says for me to use 3 drops.  The stuff we use at the shelter I volunteer at says two drops, so medicines can vary and I don't want to give you the wrong advice.

As for giving them to the cat, drip them into the ears, yes, like ear drops.  Then, rub the cats ears to spread the medicine around.

In the future, use a cotton ball for cleaning rather than a Q-tip, less risk of injury to the cat.  Also, when you've finished cleaning the ears with a cotton ball or anything for that matter, soak the cotton ball in a little bleach to kill all the mites before throwing it away.
