  1. Yes it is good to clean your pets tank once a because fungus form or parasites can come from a dirty tank. Humidity can easily be raised by adding another water dish close to the heating lamp. You can buy humidity reader from petco also. Ceramic heaters are good because they emit heat without the light you can hook this up to a automatic thermometer that will you can set to the temperature that you pet needs. This will turn the ceramic heater on and off automatically. Then you can buy a reptile florescent light and you can turn that off once it gets dark.

Some of these things aren't necessary like the ceramic heater if you have a heat lamp and a under-tank  heater. The ceramic heater is just a better way to get heat to pet.

    Hope this Helps!!!!

  2. no you dont have to

    clean it every

    week

but if you see any waste remove it

bleach would bebetter as it kills bacteria

    but

you can just high rinse it and dry it out

just keep a bwl of water and the hummidty should be kept up

also to be on the safe side

mist the cage a couple of times a day(not to much though)

    the UTH is not enough

    one side

the wamer side should be (78-85F)

    cooler side(74-76F)

  3. dont do it every week i do it every month for my cornsnake. but it escaped from its tank. so i got a ball. do not use bleach just rinse take out all the droppings.

  4. You don't need to clean it like that. I'v had my corn snake for over a year, just spotclean it whenever he craps. Also im pretty sure the bleech wouldnt be good for the snake. The undertank heater is enough but it should be warmer, try around 90 degress. They don't need an extra light, they are nocturnal for the most part.

  5. ok all u need to do for humidaty is get like a spray bottle like windex or somthin and spray it in the tank the heat lamp will evaporate it and cause humidity

  6. Allright, lets asses your questions one by one:

Tanks should be spot cleaned whenever soiled. That implicates removing the soiled substrate, and cleaning everything that might become soiled. (Like a water dish if you snake decided to p**p in it).You do not need to do an extensive cleaning all weeks. Cleaning the whole tank with a 1:3 bleach solution should be done once a month, unless the tank is too dirty.  I personally remove furnishings once a week and wipe them down with hot water and if soiled, a little bleach, but my entire tanks are cleaned every 25th of the month.

Humidity needs to be 40%-60%, not nescesarily a constant 60, so if it goes down you don't need to panic. To measure your humidity, use a digital hygometer.

Humidity can be raised in a manner of ways.

1.) Place 1/2 or the entire water dish on the 'hot' side of the cage.

2.). If you have a screen-top, cover half of it with a damp towel. This works especially well with a heatlamp.

3.) Use a mist bottle. If you don't have enough humidity, fill a misting bottle with warm water and mist your tank from a distance to create a light drizzle.

4.) Add a humid hide. A humid hide is basically made of any bowl with a lid. You cut a hole on the lid and add damp sphagnum moss to the inside.

Heating: No. This set up, with basically three heat sources works if you want to have snake kabobs. Use an under the tank mat as your primary source (controlled with a thermostat), since your snake will spend the majority of his time on the substrate. You want the heat where he'll be. If the pad is not enough to reach the desired temperature then go ahead and add a ceramic heater or a heat lamp. Cornsnakes are nocturnal, so the bulb should be red, blue or black. Unless your snake is stashed away where sunlight doesn't get to, he should be okay without you having to create a photoperiod (white light). None of my snakes have white lights and they are perfectly healthy.

You should get a digital thermomether with a probe. These will usually measure both sides of the tank as well a s humidity, and are a necesity regarless of how hot or cold your house is. A digital in/out therm can be as cheap as 10$ in Walmart.

  7. i use healthy habitat to clean my snake tanks...its safe to use even when the snake is in its tank...although i usually clean the tank while the snakes are out eating.

  8. no u don't have to clean his/her tank with bleach. in my opinion that is like poisoning the animal. a good anti-bacterial soap will do just fine. and i wouldn't clean the tank that often because you want the habitat too be as natural as possible and keeping it that clean is not at all keeping it natural. once every two weeks will be just fine.

now as for the humidity try soaking some shredded news paper and laying an even layer beneath the bedding. and the white light is just fancy talk for florescent light. you will be able to find one at a home depot near u just place it or hang it right on top or above the covering for the tank.

  9. I feel bad for your baby snake if you got him already and don't know the answers to these questions...

  10. Instead of bleach i use a 50/50 blend of Listerine Mouthwash and water. Works great. Make sure you rinse out hte tank before you put him back in.

  11. You dont have to clean it every week with bleach, but you can if you want to keep the tank really clean.  You can add humidity by misting, adding live plants, a water bowl, or a small waterfall.  An undertank heater should be enough if your snake is somewhere where it can recieve an adequte amount of light, like near a window.  If the termperature in the cage is where it should be for the snake, you probably dont need a light.
