Do i really need a air pump for a fish tank..?

Is it really nesseceary to have a air pump if i have air stones?

Yes you do. Even tho fish have gills they still need air to survive. Even goldfish are miserable when left in a bowl without air. A betta fish is good for a bowl and does not need air, but thats the only breed i can think of thats happy without air. Good look with your tank.

well if u have a air stone go geta pump its better for the fish and it makes ur tank look nice

No, you don't need an airpump for an aquarium.  Despite what others have said, air pumps don't add oxygen to the water, oxygen is added at the water surface, through agitation, which can be accomplished by the water splashing back into the tank from your filter, or from the bubbles from the pump when they reach the surface.

Yes and no.

You can have a tank without an air pump.  The only issue is that the water will not get aerated as much.  As a consequence you will need to have less fish inch per gallon of water.

Most have one so they can add a few more fish.

no you dont have to have one it just gives the fish oxygen but there fine without one it would also look nice but your fine without it

Yes. They can be as cheap as 10 dollars. Just go get it- your fish will thank you

Fish tanks do not need air pumps or air stones because they are for water surface agitation to get more oxygen to dissolve into the water for better aeration and also to bring the water from the bottom to the top to mix it up and that also helps keep the tank with a nice oxygen supply. The bubbles that air stone produces actually do not give oxygen to the water. Only a very little percentage of them do but not enough to make a difference. But if your tank has a very good surface area and filter that agitates the water than an air stone is not NEEDED.
