Do i really need a snowboarding lesson?

I live in Florida and I'm going to Colorado. I am going to get to go snowboarding but just for one day, I've never been on a snowboard but I'm pretty coordinated and have good balance. I have been skiing once before and picked it up fast, but that was 10 years ago. I have the option to take a group lesson but if I do I will be restricted to just a few slopes, if i don't do the lesson I can go to any slope on the mountain. Keep in mind I live in FL and haven't even seen snow in 10 years, what do you think?

  1. I first started skiing and I found it just super easy to pick up. But when snowboarding came... that was a different story. I think that you definitely need basic lessons even if it's only for an hour. If you really don't want  to, check out different online guides and videos (like you mentioned you have already done) and you should be set. If your going up for only one day, it shouldn't actually be that big of a deal. You don't seem to be looking at this as a serious thing you might want to keep doing. But be prepared to fall on your face and bum a lot! lol

  2. Take the lesson.  Everybody thinks they'll be fine the first time they do it.  And skiing and snowboarding really aren't that much related.  It's nearly impossible to teach somebody how to snowboard over the internet.  Actually, taking a friend who knows what they're doing isn't a terrible idea.  Just make sure they know what they're doing.

  3. no lessons bro brah. figure it out yourself. thats the best way

  4. umm i did lessons the first time i went and it seemed to help if you feel very good about it try snowboarding for half the time and if you are not doing very well then go sign up for lessons

  5. well... that's all very good if you're confident and you were a good skier and an ice skater.

the thing is, i had a teacher, so i wouldn't know.

but so many of my friends tried to learn on their own, without a teacher, and i quote:

"trying to learn how to snowboard on my own was the worst experience i've ever had, i wish i had had a teacher instead. really, i was sooooo full of it, but seriously, be happy your parents made you take a teacher."

those are the exact words of my very first snowboarding instructor, and lots of my friends have seemed to have the same opinion in the past.

which shows, it's not impossible, but even hardcore, self-confident snowboarders think a teacher is the best for beginner.ss.

  6. Take the snow board lesson, and then you can upgrade your lift ticket to an all lift. This way if you are competent to ride those slopes, you have purchased the privilege to ride the upper slopes.

  7. no

  8. personally i say take the lesson. i dont know anyone who got snowboarding the first time they went without a lesson unless you have a friend who is good at it and will teach you. take the lesson and you will have alot more fun. good luck!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Take a lesson man, first time i went out i thought i'd be ripping up and down the second i got my straps on! WRONG, splat, hit the snow every few feet! Took a lesson, did way better.

You'll have more fun if you take a boarding lesson, because you'll actually be able to do something.

No point in being able to go down all the slopes if you can't handle your board down the simplest ones!

  10. Take a lesson.

I watched some videos and read tutorials before I went up and was athletic so I assumed I'd get graduated from the lesson after ten minutes and be shredding in no time.  Wrong.  It helped a bit to have an idea in my head but ultimately the lesson got me going.

You'll probably pick it up quickly but boarding and skiing are two totally different beasts and boarding is trickier on your first day than skiing.  The lesson will ensure you have a fun (and safe!) day on the slopes.
