I have a Kenwood kvt 817 dvd headunit that pretty much does every thing. It has a 4 band parametric eq that i set different for front, rear and center speaker. i was thinking of adding a clarion eqs746 but will i still be able to use the head unit as well. the clarion has 7 volt preouts and head unit has 5. always had eq with other systems but never had a head unit like this. eq's just bring the life into the music. plus i like to have control of sub vol. in case of the police. clarion is 7 band but parametric eq's are supposed to be better than graphic but 4 bands just not enough for me i think.

  1. Adjust one properly??? I think you should adjust it to whatever sounds good to you. But I will agree that its probably unneccessary. But if you want one, go get it.

  2. You definitely DO NOT need an eq.  Most people's ears are not trained well enough to adjust one correctly.  And I'm sure you don't have the equipment to do it that way either.  So my usual suggestion to my customers is to stay away from EQs and save that money for something that's going to make a more positive impact.  The only people who "need" an EQ are people who are competing in competitions.

  3. yes and no- you never NEED one but in my opinion if you are serious about your sound quality you NEED more than 4 bands (at least 5) and as a rule it is a little easier to tune a parametric one than the graphic ones

  4. I agree with the previous answer.  You do not need to get an eq.  Unless you are looking for a really good SQ setup or want to really fine tune the sound you will not need one.  The head unit will probably have a good enough eq for what you need.  Plus they usually have a control for the sub as well.  Also, many amps come with a bass control so you could use that as well.

    Good Luck!!!
