Do i really need to buy a box spring with my mattress?

I already have a box spring so do i need to buy a new one? Does it serve any particular function?

It adds a little extra support, also the fabric on top keeps the mattress from slipping. It also make the mattress contour more to your body since it will give the mattress a little more give than being on a flat floor.

Now if you have one thats in good shape, you can certainly reuse it, if you just want a new mattress

If your bed has wooden slats then you don't need a box spring.  Platform beds and newer beds usually have the wooden slats.  If you just have a metal frame though, you'd need a box spring to support the mattress.

I don't have one. I have a bed from IKEA and use wooden slats instead of a box spring.
