i know you probably do have to, but i start uni in sept and just wondered. i probably will end up getting on for in halls (cause we've been told we'd have to if we wanna watch tv) etc but just wondered.

i dont even know how much tv im gonna have time to watch + the show id probs watch the most is on youtube, lol. you dont need a tv license for youtube do ya?!

+ also the channels i usually watch have ondemand now so i could watch them online there anyway. do you have to have a tv license to watch them even though your not watching it on a tv?

its stuff like that that makes no sense! dont agree with tv licenses anyway tbh, hardly watch tv anyway but wanna know what people think, lol. if you're/'ve been a student and could maybe let me know, haha.

  1. Yeah you will still need one. The TV license people came round my uni and checked up on us so I would get one!

  2. What is a tv license?

    ...ive never heard of that.

  3. No-one in my college had one at all. Basically, they send you two warning letters before actually doing anything about it, so I would say wait until you get a letter asking you to pay (which is unlikely to happen)!

  4. You only need one to watch programs as they are being shown on live TV even if it's on a computer with a TV card . If you download them to watch later or stream watch them ( i hope you know what i mean)  on line after they are shown you don't.

  5. If you don't think you will want to watch much tv don't take a tv. You don't need a tv licence to watch things like youtube, bbc iplayer or 4od on a computer. That's what I did in my first year in halls, I didn't miss tv at all but did watch a fair bit of youtube, bbc iplayer and 4od.

But if you get a tv it isn't worth the gamble of not getting a licence.

  6. I know the fine for being caught is £1000 and a criminal record.

You have to decide whether or not to take the gamble.

    .

  7. The halls of residence will most likely have a license to cover communal areas, but you will need one if you plan on having a TV in your room. But think about it; are you really going to need your own TV, or are you going to be watching it much?

If you don't want to fork out for a TV license, just don't have your own TV.

  8. i'm not sure what i would do i prolim buy one just to be sure.
