My daughter is 6 in two weeks and we normally get her a special present from her 7 year old brother who died two years ago. She wanted her ears pierced so after a long chat we got them done a week ago.

On returning to school today we forgot she had swimming this term and the school are refusing to let her do swimming unless she takes them out. Any advice as she doesn't want them out but doesn't want to be penalized for not swimming as it is compulsary according to the school.

  1. Either take them out for the swimming lesson and put them back in again, or do what I used to do and put plasters over them. I'm surprised they haven't given this as an option.

  2. If your daughter's swimming term is M0RE iMP0RTANT than her ears pierce, than i advise for her to take them off && see how long the swimming term will end until she can put them on again. But if her ears are going to close easily, then i think she should get them RE-D0NE when swimming is over. That shouldn't be a problem to re-open her ears. Hope this might work =] and with all respect, im soo sorry for your lost =[

  3. What have earrings got to do with her swimming?

Thats stupid. The child should be aloud to wear them. If they are only little studs then it shouldnt matter

  4. Can she just take them off for the swimming lessons and then put them on again?  That would seem to be the best thing

  5. i would be asking the school what effect her having earrings is really going to make to her swimming, maybe fair enough if she was playing a contact sport to take them out for safety reasons but for swimming i cant think of a thing that could possibly go wrong

i have never heard of a school asking for earrings to be taken out for swimming

in the end it is your decision not the schools

so either cover them with a bandaid or just let her wear them and have a word to the school

  6. They have to take them out at my daughters school, if they are not taken out prior to the lesson, they have to sit out.

It will be school policy, if they get dragged out for whatever reason, school can't be held responsible.

  7. I first want to say... Sorry for the loss of your son and god bless your family.

I had spoke to my sister who does piercings, she said to just take them out during her lessons, after her swimming lessons... wipe the area with alcohol, then replace the earrings.

  8. hunny!!!!!!!!! this child is telling you what to do! If she wants to swim she has to follow the rules! Your the parent shes the child! She cant have everything she wants, ask her which one she wants most! The one she picks do it. If she wants her earings in ALL the time then no swimming if she wants to swim more no earings for however long the swim thing is!

  9. If you just got them pierced they have to stay in for 6 weeks or the hole will close up.. if they are just stud earrings I don't see what the problem is in keeping the earrings in..

  10. HI

you will probably have to have the earrings taken out because the swimming is compulsory to the school and  not applying to their rules could lead to exclusion. School should come 1st. She will have to wait till shes left school to were earrings

  11. Tell the school that you will tape them up and that she will wear a swim cap over her ears and say sorry next time you will have her ears done during the 6 weeks holidays

  12. why can't she swim with them in? I got my ears pierced at her age and I swam every afternoon for hours on my swim team. As long as they are studs there shouldn't be a problem. If she takes them out they may close up. When you just get them done you can't take it out for a while, even a few hours can cause the ears to close up. The school is being very unreasonable. Stud earrings do not effect swimming in any way and theres no reason why she can't wear them.
