  1. No..sound system has nothing to do with gas consuption.

Unless you've got like 800lbs of sound equipment.

  2. no the batterary and the gas tank are too different parts of the gas, certain things are used by battery lights stereo navigation some things are used by gas air conditioning they dont intertwine

  3. Actually, YES! The alternator is being used all most all the time to keep the battery charge up. When it is producing electricity the power is being taken from the engine and the end result is a drop in gas mileage. It may be only a few dollars per week, but it does impact fuel mileage.

  4. It will, but not noticeably. The A/C will have a bigger effect, but not nearly as much as many would lead you to believe.

  5. Yes you will waste more gas. Your alternator is not producing enough energy to power car & sound system. This is why better systems require a higher amp alternator.

Note:The alternator must have at least 20% more amperage power than the entire vehicle and sound system combined for an amp to be of benefit.

  6. The change in fuel consumption is very little.  You have to account for the added weight your system puts onto the car and the added electrical strain as described by previous answerers.  But the difference is so little you probably won't notice a difference.

  7. Yes - As the other guy said.  There is no such thing as free energy.

Your alternator "loads down" as the electrical consumption goes up.  It causes slightly more resistance to the engine turning.

As an experiment, open your hood while the engine is idleing, turn on the high beams and your idle will change slightly due to the increased resistance of the alternator.

All in all, the sound system probably will not effect your mileage too much.  It probably will effect your hearing though.
