  1. Ok, people have given very different answers here, so I'll try and clear it up a bit. Identical twins do have the same DNA for the most part, but it would not be identical on every base pare. But how the genetic matieral is expressed can differ vastly. Gene expression can depend on environment, so different twins can have a different expression rate of the same gene, depending on different environmental factors. Also, female identical twins can differ what X chromosome they have inactivated. In females, only one X chromosome is active, the other gets inactivated very early on in fetal development into what is called a barr body. This inactivation is largely random, and if the twins get different barr bodies inactivated they can have a very different X-linked gene expression.

The fingerprints are different, they depend both on genes and development in the uterus, so identical twins will have similar patterns, since they have the same genes and a very similar environment, but not exactly the same.

Iris and retina will be very similar in identical twins, but like fingerprint they also depend partially on the environment. Things like blood vessle and light stimulation will effect both the retina and iris, and therefore they will not be exactly alike, and the difference is big enough to use it to identify them.

  2. Yes, no human has the same finger print.

  3. i know identical twins have different DNA and finger prints but im not sure about irises and retinaes but they probably are different as no two human beings are the inless they are attached to each other

  4. Yes, yes, no, and yes.

The patterns of eyes and fingerprints depend on tiny variations at the time of development.  DNA doesn't directly code for that.

  5. I dispute the other answers.  I am an identical twin (male) and I have been told we have the same DNA.  I think fingerprints is the one thing where identical twins can differ.  Will be interested in your other answers.  My brother and I have received quite a lot of money from university students who are researching identical twins.  I think some of the results have been surprising.  Identical twins can be pretty freaky!

  6. no one, even if they are identical twins, have the same fingerprint, irises, DNA, or retinae.

Even though they may look alike, that does not mean their genetic composition is also alike.

They are still two different people, regardless of relation to each other or appearance.

  7. yes they do.

  8. are identical twins not formed when one egg splits in two? so it would make sense that they have the same DNA.

But fingerprints are formed by movements in the amniotic sac so they wouldn't have the same.

  9. Well, it has been said that no two people have identical DNA,but i think in the case of identical twins it would make sense and is probably true! I mean, if they are identical then that means NOTHING about them (other than personality wise maybe) is different, right?

This is an excellent question! Your a smart one! ;)

  10. No one has the exact same DNA.
