Question:

Do incoming calls cost money on a landline?

I was called by my friend several times this week. She always called my house from her cell phone. I never called her once, so all of the calls were incoming. Yet when I recieved my phone bill, I have huge charges from her number. How can this be. My phone company is Verizon and I live in Wisconsin. In case you are not aware, Verizon does supply landlines as well as cell phones. I am not sure of who her provider is, but I do know that every call was incoming from a cell phone to a landline.

Please explain how I could have such huge charges.

Thanks.

  1. You need to call your phone company immediately and find out what's going on. If it matter, they can determine which provider she uses for cell service, though that should have little bearing on your being charged for her attempt to phone you.

  2. no

  3. was it long distance? that might be it...

  4. Well, did the phone calls say, "Do you accept the charges?" if so, then yes, it's true, you SHOULD have a big bill. If untrue, how many calls have you made????

  5. Although there are charges (911 tax + Fed tax + state tax etc...)  an incoming call should have no charges.  Unless the charges were reversed - for this to happen - you would have to agree to this ahead of time.

Call your telephone provider!  Audit these charges.

  6. There is something wrong there.  Did an operator ask you if you "accept" charges when she calls?  She might be calling collect, but that requires your permission.

  7. no...the person who initiated the call got to pay!

  8. Call the phone company - it sounds like someone has hacked into your line.  You can't be charged for incoming calls on your landline.  Something is wrong.  I have Verizon landline and cellular.  Only my cellular bill breaks calls down.  My landline just lists monthly charges.  Are you looking at the right bill?

  9. to say the least NO people dont pay for incoming calls no matter what they are ( cell phone calls or land phone calls);

BUT there are 3 cases -I guess- when you would pay 4 incoming calls:

1- people having your permission 2 pay : in this case someone from the phone company would ask u clearly whether u accept or u dont. if not ; u wouldnt be charged.

2- maybe she  - someway - hacked your line .

3- nowadays there are a lot of programs and stuff which - at least some of them- could make some tricks or something.

    to solve this problem:

1- if you are not sure enough who called maybe you should make sure.

2- if you are sure she called u ; u could either ask a specialist in phones and stuff or ask the phone company and I suggest u do both . because there is something fishy and as I said previously you 're not charged 4 incoming calls in ordinary cases.

I wish your problem will be solved ASAP.
