Do industrial piercings affect job chances?

i'm thinking of getting my industrial done, but everyone's saying if i do, i won't be able to get a weekend job (i'm only 17, so i'm looking for part time work), but as long as i wear my hair down, or wear retainers, it should be okay, right? i know plenty of people with facial piercings that have jobs. one even works in a restaurant (with eyebrow, nose x2 & lip x2), so why should this affect me?

  1. In some cases, yes it might affect your job chances, because some people are still stuck in an era and they think its innappropriate, yet some places will allow them you just have to wear a clear ring. And then you have your places who don't care what you got as long as you work hard. It really depends on where you wanna work.

  2. It's just the way society is. If you have a tattoo or piercing that is unusual  to most people, then they automatically think different of you. The sad truth.

  3. It depends where you apply. If you apply at a high end clothing store or fancy spa, you as the employee are the FACE of their company and if they dont like your look they do not have to hire you.

For example, at amusement parks its not permitted to have dyed hair, facial piercings or wear excessive make up because they want a clean look with strict uniforms.

Its not discrimination its about presentaiton and being the face of a company. Some places don't mind at all, lots of funky hair salons have really tatted up pierced employees.

I ran a spa and tanning salon for 7 years and i would never hire ANYONE with piercings, tattoos or crazy hair colors because it was a luxury spa and I was looking for classy clean and professional.

  4. It depends where you work I think. Many places have policies against piercings, ours definately does. I would say while you are having interviews that places will be put off. I waited until i got my job till i got my tongue pierced, much more difficult for them to cause hassle then.

  5. it all depends on where you work. if its privatly owned you have a better chance of working there. if its a corporation then they will tell you to take it out before you come in. it will affect you, just like getting a tatto anyplace that can be seen will affect you getting a job.

  6. I've got my industrial, stretched ears and my tragus.

And i've just recently got a job in an office, i've wore my hair down ever since and no-one's noticed. So i'd say go for it.

  7. not sure exactly what an 'industrial' piercing is but I am aware that employers often  have an 'image' in mind of model employees and  if the face don;t fit?

it may for example be you will have a lot of customer face to face contact. if THEY find it an issue ? then the employer has  a business interest to worry about and dress codes do come into play  unless for example you are working in a secluded area where you will be assesed on performance and not looks or company image.

  8. It definitely shouldn't especially with a retainer.

    It shouldn;t be noticable.

  9. It shouldn't affect it at all because it's on your ears.

  10. It depends what job your going for, and what the employers are like. but I've had my lip pierced for 5 years and had no problem with getting jobs. i've had about 4 differant jobs in that time in nursing homes and restaurants.

    they were fine with it.

  11. If you work at the mall or something you will be OK.

  12. Depends where you apply. Many places may make you take it out at work but are legally not allowed to refuse you for a job based solely on a piercing.

  13. Looks like you've already made up your mind- so go do it!

  14. I think you should be fine.

I have my ears guaged and wore fancy plugs all the time so nobody would notice. I also have my lip pierced which I do take out when i go to work.

Just got my tongue pierced hope that dosen't affect ne thing.

  15. My boyfriend has to take his scaffold bar out for KFC. People at my Asda I work at wear the bars and cover it up with their hair, customers can get prejudiced about piercings. Ask the employer about company policy in an interview, they wont be judgmental, you may even get to keep it in.

  16. It all depends on the job. If you are going to work at a resturaunt, chances are slim. BUT if you wanna work at a place like a comic store.

Pircings are okay, but Y O U may be overdoing it.

  17. if you are 17 and have are only looking for part time work, there is no way an industrial piercing will affect your chances of employment. if an employer wants you to cover it up, you can. i work part time (i am 22) and have tattoos on my arms and i don't have to cover them because i work in retail. if you work somewhere with a big company, or in an office, piercings and tattoos could cause potential problems, but i wouldn't worry about an industrial at all.

  18. It all depends on the employer. Many people look down on facial piercings. I had my nosed pierced at one point, just a small stud. My employer made me remove it when I was scheduled to work. It was so small that many people didn't even realize I had it there. I guess it all depends on company policy.
