Do inland revenue back date working for families/family assistance payments?

my son is coming up to 5 weeks old and it has taken 4 of those 5 weeks so far to apply for family assistance. i still havnt applied yet because im waiting for his ird number to be sent. just wondering if they back date these payments?

Yes - you get back dated to the date the baby was born, not matter how long it takes..

Yes, they will.  As you have applied for his IRD number, you have already started the process.
