Question:

Do insects and snails and such feel pain the same way that humans do?

I'm only asking because I always seem to be accidentally stepping on snails and it makes me feel terribly guilty. I was just hoping it didn't hurt them too much, and thought that maybe they react to pain instinctively and don't experience it as we do.

  1. no they have totally different nervous systems, But I'm sure they react to damage

  2. no and dont let those idiot PETA fools tell you otherwise, fact is, they have different nerve structures than us, so theyll never feel pain like us

  3. They have nervous systems that are similar to that of humans.  So, yes.  But their brains aren't as large and complicated as ours, so their experience of pain probably doesn't mean the same thing.

When i step on a snail, i find it gross.  It's not that i'm harming them, though i have empathy enough for that.  The main thing is that they're squishy.  I'd rather hear fingernails on a chalkboard.

I haven't seen a chalkboard in years, however.
