Do insects have brains?

Their heads are soooo tiny, I can't imagine what kind of brain could possibly fit in there. And, if they don't have brains, then how do they know how to survive? Do they have adrenaline? I guess I'm just asking, What are insects made of?

  1. Yes, insects do have brains--just not very big ones. A house fly's brain has only about 200,000 neurons.

If you do a web search, you can even find pictures of insect brains. .

    in four parts:

    - The optical lobes, protocerebrum, deutocerebrum, and the tritocerebrum.

  2. yes but really small

  3. A brain is nothing more than a location to process information.  If an insect has eyes it must have a place to process that information,  If it can process touch, detect pheromones and react to that information it must have a location to process that information.

But it is only reacting to information.  Like when you pull your had from a hot stove.  It does not think, wow that stove is hot, I better get away.  Do you?
