I'm 36 weeks along and I know my dr is going to start doing internal exams soon. Do they hurt?

  1. I think it really depends on the doctor, and also how relaxed you are. For me, they were extremely painful, but I would always tense up... I've heard the more relaxed you are the easier it is. Either way, it's not a long process, so easy enough to get through :-) You're getting near the end... good luck with everything!

  2. Internal exams do not hurt. You will feel pressure and a twinge of pain, but nothing bad. Your dr will not be using any instruments for them, just his/her hand so no need to worry. Also, be prepared for some bleeding afterwards. It is normal and very common to have some spotting after an internal exam.

  3. I found them to be more uncomfortable then painful

  4. No not really. I had one done at 28 weeks (had some bleeding) It was only uncomfortable because my cervix was still up high and it was hard for her to get too.

  5. They can be a little painful when checking your cirvix. and you my sopt a little so remember to bring a panty liner.

    good luck and congrats.

  6. They didn't hurt for me. Occasionally they'd be slightly uncomfortable, but I wouldn't say painful. It depends how easy it is for the doctor to feel your cervix. My doctor always did it very easily, but one time I was in the hospital and the nurse was apparently having issues because it was much more uncomfortable when she did it. But that was at 6 months so my cervix was still high and harder to get to. By the time I was having them done for 3rd trimester, they were no biggie.

  7. their are not comfortable.

    but not excruciating either.

  8. I shouldn't think they are massively painful, but given what they are doing I'd say it will be uncomfortable and a little painful. Nothing major though.

  9. a little if the doctors hand's are big and the doctors ruff

  10. Me and my sister-in-law both had the same dr. and were due 3 months apart, I was due first. She went with me to get checked right at 40 wks and I swear I was going to die.....I joked that I could taste what she had for lunch earlier in the day. Anyway my next pregnancy I had a different dr. and she was very gentle. My sister-in-law actually had to see her for one appt. and joked she now knew why I was staying with this dr. instead of going back to the other. They were both good drs. but the first gal just had some monstrous hands. lol
