I think that they will never let you know, but they do make their decisions based on if they like your race, attitude, etc.

  1. yeh i think they do..i can remember once during an interview being called a "yankee"..im from NY living in NC now..to me that was an insult ... so i was being judged by where i was born..and not based on me graduating from college with honors...

  2. I'm sure they do.  They may make their decisions based on whether or not you are attractive, how you are dressed, if you wear fragrance, etc.  It depends on their priorities and the image of the company they want their employees to project.

  3. Not race I am sure but whether or not your personality would be a good fit for their environment they sure do.

  4. Experts in the field say yes - first impressions really count here, and a yea or nay vote is usually made in the first 30 seconds.

They know what (and for whom) they are looking - whether its legal or not!  If they are looking for a young perky white female with 0% body fat to work the front deskthat'shat's who they are going to hold out for no matter how qualified other applicants may be.

Of course, you can't know who they are really looking for. It might very well be you!  Always arrive 10 minutes early, bring copies of your resume and all the notes you need to fill out your application, dress appropriately and shine your shoes, don't chew gum, don't wear cologne or overdo the makeup.  Smile, shake hands, and make eye contact.  Know ahead of time the answers to the most likely questions, and make sure you have learned enough aboutcompanymapny to ask one or two intelligent questions of your own.  And never, ever, ever bad-mouth a former boss or place of employment!

    Good luck!

  5. I read they make their mind up about you within the first few minutes.  Their decision is based on the way you present yourself, this would include how you dress, greet them, confidence level and (for want of a better word) chemistry.   They already know your skills and experience from your CV.  I don't believe race has anything to do with it, at least I would hope it wouldn't.  However, I do believe that some discrimination still exists - ageism is common.
