Do-it-yourself home security system?

Question

Looking for a source for do-it-yourself security system, mostly consisting of a couple of cameras, video monitor for my kitchen, maybe a motion detector or two, and glass breakage detector. I've visited supercircuits.com, which is awesome for the video systems, but nothing for motion detector or glass breakage. My husband and I are both electrical and techie-inclined, so I know we can hook everything up the way we want it, I just can't seem to find one good source to buy it all to ensure it will all work together. Wanting to find some base package where you can then add this, that, the next thing. Any suggestions ?
