Jim in totally right. even crossing at a small border like east port maine it is so much easier and quicker to have the paper work ready windows open and engine off.

If you  are an American citizen, under 19 years of age, travelling with your parents, you need an " Original Birth Certificate " NOT a photo copy.

I cross the border very frequently, from my home in Toronto, and I can tell you that you will get more problems going  back INTO the USA than you will have entering Canada.Why? The US rules  have been made so much more strict,. since 9/11 that everyone is being screened to a high degree.

My best advice, at the border, is have all the papers in the driver's hand,  have all the  vehicle windows down and shut off the engine, so the inspector can hear the answers to his/her questions. Have ONE person do the talking, and only  answer what was asked. Don't go off on a verbal sidetrack.
