Do kids need annual check ups until they are grown?

I have always taken my daughter for an annual check up in august. This year I don't have the extra money and my ins doesn't pay until we meet the deductible. She is healthy and normal weight / height and current on all shots. Can I skip a year or should i just wait a couple months until I have saved a little money?

  1. Well, depends on your daughters age...

Personally, I would try to take my child in every year till at least 6 yrs old...  to make sure they have their shots and stuff up to date.... but after that, as long as the child seems healthy and you have no concerns, then you could wait until either you saved enough money or you do have a concern.

On another note... Some Drs offices allow a payment plan if you explain your situation.  I know my Dr does this.

  2. I have no problems skipping check ups for my kids...

Assuming they don't have any ongoing health issues, of course.

Especially, with my older kids.  You are more likely to know if there is a problem with an older child.  They can verbalize pain/discomfort.

I like to take my babies to checkups, just because there could be an issue with them I can't see myself.  Since they can't talk or walk yet for me to see if there is a problem.

Most of those visits are really intended to keep children up to date on vaccines...

  3. I personally believe that kids should have annual check ups. I have 4 kids and I take them during their birth month. Even when there is nothing wrong with them.

I suggest you save the money and take her as soon as you can. When a Dr. give a clean bill of health for my kids I feel much better.

Girls is important to take them, because between you and the Dr. can answer her questions without leaving any doubts. (periods, birth control, annual PAP smear, etc.)

  4. My children are seen every year. Its recommended by their doctor and our insurance.

Maybe instead of skipping all together you could try  to do it in a few months.

  5. If she is doing fine and you don't have the money to do it then i would not be worried about it.

  6. Wait a couple of months i take the boys in for annual check ups every year before school starts and when needed... my youngest son is on ritalin so he has to go every month to make sure the dose is right for him...
