I wonder if a king ever sat around playing a chess game, and what would the pieces represent to him (pawn, rook, knight, bishop) and the most obvious and powerful piece, the queen?

  1. being a smart *** here, i think "kings play chess on fine grain sands" but seriously here's a site with a load of stuff don't know if it will answer stuff for you but here it is: http://www.logicalchess.com/info/history...

oh and besides making a chess board for a school project all i know is that the rook was originally a bird from middle eastern myth not a castle

  2. Does anyone care?

  3. hmmmmmmm!  play pretend, that will do! Lol.

  4. There are many references both in history and in fiction to kings or royalty playing chess.

Indeed, chess is also called "the game of kings". If you Google for this exact phrase, most of the pages are about chess, or about the Dorothy Dunnett book "The Game of Kings". Her book is fiction, but part of the plot at a critical moment is a game of chess, which is why she used that as the title.
