Do laptop also have Multiple Hard Disk or only Single Hard Disk?

and if they also have multiple hard disk,how can I tell if my Laptop has multiple hard disk or single hard disk,it has- dual channel PCI IDE Controller.

Usually just one, which may be partitioned into several virtual drives (C:, D:, etc.).

To find what you have, run the disk management console. For XP, you can start it through:

Start - Run

C:\WINDOWS\system32\diskmgmt.msc <enter>.

You'll see all of the disks at the bottom (even unformatted ones), and the partitions at the top.

Don't change anything in this console if you don't know what you're doing, just exit using Alt-F4.

The IDE controller has to handle the hard disk along with any CD/DVD drive your computer might have.  Typically they'll be one channel for the hard drive and one for the optical drive (or swappable drive bay which could contain an optical drive or hard drive) with all devices running as master.

Nowadays of course SATA is taking over.

Some laptops can have a second hard drive put in it (or second battery) if you remove the DVD burner but very few people who buy such a computer actually end up putting a second hard drive in (and those laptops comprise a minority of laptops sold).

There are other 'laptops' (which would be more correctly called luggables) that do have two hard drives in the computer and an optical drive as well.  Those things tend to be a bit heavy to carry around a lot.
