Do laptops come installed with windows?

Question

I want to get a laptop relatively soon and my sister confused me by saying they don't come with windows and it costs a lot to get it. I'm definitely not a computer person so I don't really understand what she means. She was given her laptop by someone else so didn't have to bother with getting windows so I don't know if shes right or not.

Can someone please help.

depending on the computer you can get ether windows or Linux.  you can also end up getting a mac and those do not come with windows preinstalled most laptops and PCs come with windows vista already on it but can be downgraded to xp and if you look hard enough you might find one with xp on it some people prefer xp over vista and in order to get xp you need to buy the operating system separate from the computer otherwise there should be some sort of operating system already installed just thing of it this way with out it the computer / laptop wont work properly or work at all

Every laptop comes with Windows Vista now. When you order you laptop online, you can change what version of Vista you want. For example Vista Home Premium, or Vista Ultimate, to name a few of the seven versions. Try to stay away from Vista Home Basic because its the lowest version and does not have much in it. I also heard it has problems.

So just buy a laptop and you will have an operating system already installed on it.

Most laptops come with windows, unless you buy them used or in a similar situation.

All major manufacturers (and most smaller ones) sell their laptops pre-loaded with an operating system, usually windows (sometimes linux).

It should be clearly stated on the information page (or at the store).

Laptops come installed with Microsoft Windows, which is the operating system. However, they often DO NOT come installed with Microsoft Word.
