Do large earthquake's cause problems to airplanes or helicopters??

If there was a 10.0 happening, and a plan flying over at a low altitude, would it be effected by the whole area shaking below it? Or will wind be effected?

  1. No. Except landing, that'd be fun.

    If they are in the air, they are fine.

    The air does not move differently due to earth quakes.

    The air buffers you completely.

    Test: get a seismograph and put it above a table, then shake the table.

    Even 30ft off the ground the air above has more of an impact on windspeed/diection than the ground.


  2. Helicopters get their upward motion from blowing air down so a small effect is possible with them but with planes and jets there is no way they could be affected other than not being able to find a place to land/take off from. Hope that helps!
