  1. oranges contain more sugars than lemons do.

  2. Only if if cut them in half and apply them to your eyes

  3. don't mark my word, but it seems that lemons are less sticky and more acidic. that's just a thought.

  4. they do not make a good swap....citrus fruits all contain citrus acid,  but lemons seem to take the cake when it comes to cleaning:   for example,  to clean your hands after kitchen work,  fresh lemon juice is perfect....as long as you can take the acid....and in any case,  just wash off in fresh water....(I have friends who keep a half lemon right next to the kitchen sink ....)  and the furniture polish:   that usually is lemon...although there is a distinct fondness for French lavender...

also:  lemon soap has long been used in bleaching or keeping ladies faces light... see

go to the housekeeping section and click on 'soaps & lotions'

With respect to oranges,  they seem a little more useful for a perfumery aspect of housekeeping ..... for your closet and chest of drawers are:::::

Pomander Balls:  oranges stuck with whole cloves quite closely spaced (about 1/2" apart) and then rolled / turned around in a big (wooden!!! ) bowl of equal quantities of powdered cinnamon with powdered nutmeg and powdered orris root.... the loose spices and the orris root are available from Kalustyan's,  in New York (I think they mail things...)
