Question:

Do lenses become thicker if you have high prescription?

Mine is -7.00 in both eyes and I currently wear glasses but want to change to lenses..

  1. Yes... they do... get high index lenses.  Not all places carry the thinnest lenses so ask around... I believe LensCrafters is one place that doesnt have the thinnest lenses... when they say its their thinnest lens, its what THEY SELL not what is available in the market...

    You have to pay more, but trust me... its worth it.... I wear -8.00 and my lenses are THINNER than my cousin who wears -2 because she bought the cheapo internet plastic basic... lack for a better term, crappy lenses...

    And yes, get smaller framers... the closer you are to the center of the lenses, the thinner they become... hope this helps!

The higher the prescription, the thicker the edges of a lens for near-sighted people such as yourself.  In order to minimize this,  you can consider getting a smaller frame with high-index lenses.  Another alternative would be contact lenses.  They are comfortable for most people at twice your prescription.....
