Question:

Do line bifocals without the line exist?

I don't like progressives because there is no peripheral vision and I get very dizzy. Is it possible to get line bifocals, like with peripheral vision, just without the line in the middle?

  1. Yea, my mom has them.

  2. You know, my first pair of progressives sucked too. I wanted the same thing you do, bifocals without lines. But when I asked the optician (different from the one who gave me the sucky progressives) he encouraged me to try a different make of progressives. I decided to trust him and I did try different ones. It was like night and day. The second pair were exactly what I wanted ... good for all distances, not super-sensitive to where you were looking, etc.

Anyway, he told me no, they don't make "no line" bifocals per se, any such product is actually a progressive lens.

If you're in the US, ask your optician about Varilux progressive lenses. I believe they have a deal where if you do not like them, they will provide bifocal replacements. These are the lenses that I tried and worked great for me.

    Good luck.

  3. There are many different progressives on the market. Cheap pones are harder to use than the better technology that is in the more expensive ones. The more expensive ones do have "non-apapt" waranties. Also, just so you know, there is such thing as a "blended" bifocal. It is a true Bi-focal that has been smudged out where the line would be. For most people it is more irritating than a progressive becasue you walk around with a big smudge mark in your vision all the time. Do you know your Rx? If you could ost it I might be able to give you  more insights as to which progressive might work well for you. You need to make sure that you are seeing a certifed optician that has a lot of experience fitting progressives, there is just too mugh involved to trust it to some kid that flipped hamburgers yesterday. I will Check back again later tonight and see if you have your Rx posted. I would be happy to help more.
