Question:

Do local District attorney offices discuss cases with the public?

I am trying to get custody of my ten year daughter who lives in another state. Her father is currently charged with murder and that is not enough for the judge to grant me custody. We are waiting for the outcome of his hearing. I am keeping track of the case activity on-line, but do not understand some of the wording. Would the DA's office talk to me about these things.

  1. I'd try the public defender's office or a private attorney.  The DA doesn't have any interest in cases from another state, nor does he have any obligation to help you.

  2. I assume that you have gone to family services in the state your child resides to begin a custody fight. All legal action will need to take place in that state not yours.

If the custodial parent is currently awaiting trial in a homicide case, there should be little trouble obtaining temporary custody, and full custody should he be found guilty.

Contact an atty in the city where the child resides.
