  1. All birds will bite at one time or another.  However it is us that typically teaches them to bite.  Birds will typically move your hand or finger away from them if they do not want to be touched.  If you approach a second time they will again move your finger away.  When you approach the third time they will probably bite as you did not listen to them the first two times.

Birds also use their beak to measure distance.  If they can reach you with their beak they will be able to reach you with their feet.

Many people think because a bird is reaching for them that the bird is going to bite when that is typically not the case.  They are trying to determine if you are close enough to step on to.

But macaws can and will bite for any number of reasons.  There are many that don't either.  But it is something to be aware of.

You can approach a macaw by using bending your wrist and making the back of your hand tight.  If you rub this tight area on the birds beak, he won't be able to bite it even if trying as it is too tight to get a grip on.  This is a good way to help train a bird from biting because if you can feel comfortable holding your hand there and not showing fear to the bird he will learn that biting will not get him anywhere.

  2. all birds bite.....its there way of saying stop it!

  3. yes they do. never get your hands or face near any bird you dont know.

a macaw can snap a broom stick with his beak. think what he can do to you.

  4. All macaws have the capabilities to severely mangle your finger, hand, or face, but hand tamed ones usually will not unless cruelly treated.  However, you can expect a small nip from time to time if you don't pay attention to their body language.

  5. yep they all bite, big and small... macaws are very destructive when they want to be... even the most well mannered, tamed birds may bite you at some point. it is often their only defense!

  6. Yes they could, and when you talk about the biggest

macaw of all, the Hyacinth Macaw, they definitely

have the strongest bite of all, and thats because

in the wild they feed mostly on hard shell nuts

and they make it look easy to brake,

every parrot bites but the Hyacinth is one of the

biggest and strongest of the parrot world.

  7. Yes.  Yes they do.  Very hard.  They can actually remove a human finger without a second thought.  If you have to ask this question, I strongly urge you to NOT get any sort of macaw whatsoever.

  8. Yes, every bird can and will bite.  And a hyacinth macaw is HUGE and could severly shatter a finger or disfigure a face if they bite down hard.

  9. Yes, hyancinths are espescially agressive, so be careful and mind your wits when you are around one you are not familar with.

  10. All birds bite.

  11. The answer is yes, even if its very well trained macaws bit or BITE OFF!!! Macaws should NEVER be in close contact will any child for he just might bite.

    So that's a warning;)

  12. All of Gods creatures bite. ones with big beaks too!

  13. ya they can bite so hard they can snap ur fingers

  14. it depends on the bird and how it was raised. if you're going raise it and you raise it well, it probably wont.

i have a blue fronted amazon who was abused and she doesnt bite unless she gets frightened

  15. Yes they will bite if they don't know you, they will bite when they get nurvous. And they are wild, no matter how tamed yours is. They all have good days and bad days and if you educate yourself in the macaw behavior you may never get bitten at all. It is always good to learn as much about these birds as you can before you ad one to your household. And the best ones to get are right from the breeders who hand feed theirs, you can learn to finish out yours to ween and then the baby will grow up with you, so most likely would never bite you out of being mean or nuvous at all.

  16. yea all birds bite bute mccaws not very much because birds like parakeets bite because there little and they know it so they protect thereself by biting.big birds do not because there big and they now how to fight they could probally  bite your finger off or draw blood but it wouldnt do it if i tried it could.

  17. GOD yes!!! My sister has 2 of them. I was standing near their cage one night getting ready to leave. She had 2, A male and a female. My sis suddenly screamed "look out" while looking behind me. The male, Sequoiya had slid down the bars on the side of the cage, hung out horizontally, and tried to take a chunk out of my ***. I dodged but he did manage to ruin a good pair of denims! I turned around and grabbed him by the sides of the beak and growled at him. But every time I go over there I don't dare go near him. He lowers his head and locks onto me like a sidewinder missle. If you get one ALWAYS ensure that the beak is dulled.

  18. They do and they will....

All parrots bite, some hard and some not so hard. Their mouth is the same as our hands and they use it not only to defend them self but to show affection, to play and grooming.  So they bite, however they do not use their becks to hurt people unless they are provoked or they have a good reason.

  19. YES, all birds bite. Hyacinths are the most destructive and cause the most damage, of any macaw and mostly EVERY bird. They can EASILY take a finger off! If you are a NEW bird owner get a budgie, or a cockatiel!
