Do male marsupials have nipples?

And what about a male platypus? even female platypus lack teats, instead milk is released through pores in the skin. There are grooves on her abdomen that form pools of milk, allowing the young to lap it up.

  1. I really doubt it, based on the anatomy of the female. Higher mammals developed nipples when the milk ducts converged into a single channel. This made nursing much more efficient. Milk glands are actually modified sweat glands. The mammal-like reptile ancestors of monotrenes had young which probably got electrolytes from l*****g the sweat off their parent's bodies.

  2. First of there is absolutely no way that platypus males have nipples since the neither does the female. Being one of the more primitive forms of mammal the platypus has not developed the complex structure of the nipple but instead exudes milk from its belly, which its offspring then l**k off.

As for whether male marsupials have nipples after spending a while looking on the internet I found samples from a book called Life of Marsupials which says that they don't, unlike in placental mammals like us.
