Do marketing managers who work for a concert venue have to attend concerts?

I work for the local performing arts theater, and although I don't think you are obligated to go to all of the shows, you can certainly pick and choose. Our marketing managers go so they can suck up to the performers and claim their brushes with fame as much as possible. It gives them something to talk about at parties and feel a bit important. If you aren't that pretentious, then it won't matter. Most people spend time in the backstage area where the noise is minimal at best.
