  2. No they do not!

Dr. offices make deals with insurance companies and give discounts to them (and you inadvertently).

If you walk in with no insurance and haven't worked out an arrangement with that office you will be charged at a higher rate than insurance companies due to not getting the discounts!

Sometimes Dr. offices will give you the discounted price if you meet with their Billing Clerk prior to services being rendered!

    Have a great day!

  3. I have no health insurance and my Dr's. office gives me a 20% discount if pif on the day of service.  I also require blood work once a month and the cost is almost 40% less if pif day of serv.  Work out an agreement w/ your dr office.  Mine revues my finances every quarter and as to date I receive a discount according to my income

Call around and find someone that is willing to work w/you.

    good luck.

  4. Some do but most do not....My wife had a baby on insurance out of pocket cost was our $3,000 annual total deductible....We paid cash for everything on the next child and paid just over $4,000 in med bills w/o insurance premiums...same doc/same hospital....go figure

  5. Mine doesn't and neither do any of the labs they use.  They negotiate rates for services with each insurance company individually and agree to accept that in combination with my co-pay as payment in full, they write off the remainder.  On the other hand, they have set fees for those patients without insurance and from what I've seen they are a lot higher than what my insurance company pays for the same service.

  6. Not necessarily.

The price that a person with insurance pays for a procedure is negotiated with the insurance company and can be less than what the doctor would normally charge a paitent who does not have insurance.

While this might not seem fair.  It is a common practice that those with insurance pay less than those without.

  7. Eskie lover is right.  Most insurance companies negotiate with the the provider, thust the rates are lower.  If you have no insurance, you are forced to pay the prevailing rates.

  8. ~~The doctors bill the same price but must accept the negotiated rate they have with insurance companies. I worked for years in the medical field. Always ask for 20 percent discount if you have no insurance. The doctors office usually will gladly give you this discount because there is no paperwork involved with your claim.~~

  9. Generally yes - because it's too time consuming to tailor the prices on each claim, so all the claims go out with the same price, regardless of who is being billed. The insurances pay what they're contracted to pay, and that's it. Self-paying patients generally have a little wiggle room for a discount, but they initally are billed the same rate the insurance companies are. It's up to the patient to seek out a price break.

  10. Yes. Except of course with insurance you wont pay for much at all. And the insurance only pays so much, for example,  You are charged $1000 the insurance pays $600 You pay $100 and the rest is not your responsibility.
