I know that some European countries have monarchies, with kings and queens, and heirs.

My question is, do the young princes and princesses go to school and college like most people?

Or are they privately tutored?

One example would be Prince Harry.

  1. Although Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret were privately tutored, Prince Charles read anthropology and archeology, before switching to history,  at Trinity College, Cambridge University, earning a 2:2 Bachelors of Arts degree in June 1970.    A generation later, Prince William earned a Masters of Arts degree with upper second-class honours in 2005 after first receiving a Bachelors of Arts degree in history at the University of St. Andrews.  Both William and Harry attended the Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst.  Harry, however, didn't attend a university.

  2. Yes, many royal Princes and Princesses have attended schools, colleges and universities. Although Queen Elizabeth II herself was home-schooled, all of her children did attend real schools. In a break with tradition, Buckingham Palace announced in 1955 that the Prince Charles would attend school, rather than have a private tutor; making Charles the first heir apparent to do so. He first attended Hill House School in West London, and later the Cheam Preparatory School in Berkshire, which the Duke of Edinburgh had also attended.

Both Prince William and Prince Harry attended independent schools in southern England. In their early years, they were pupils at Mrs Jane Mynors' nursery school and the pre-preparatory Wetherby School, both in West London. Then, they attended Ludgrove School in Berkshire, a preparatory school. After passing an entrance exam, they both went on to Eton College in Berkshire. Prince William chose to take a gap year after finishing Eton College, and attended the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland.
