Do men (and probably women too) pass gas more often as they get older? If so, why?

  1. Yes, they do. The reason is that as you get older it becomes harder to digest some foods and the food stays longer in your GI tract which gives more time to the bacteria in your intestines to ferment the food and produce gas. On the other hand, your rectal muscles become weak (just like all your muscles) and it becomes harder to hold the gas inside and therefore you pass gas more frequently.  


  2. They swallow too much air. Also their disgestive system is not in prime condition, leaving too much nutrients in the guts for the bacteria.
