  1. why wouldn't they?  they're people too.


  2. When you say mentally challenged, you are talking about cognitive processes, Insecurity is emotional.

    Their inability to function at the same intellectual level as others, would surly impact on them emotionally in a negative way.

    So next time you meet someone who is "challenged",  I would suggest you say hello, smile and have a conversation. You will find they are in many ways the same as you. Sincerely

Yes, maybe even more so.  The word 'r****d' is still used today on regular TV.  It's stigmatizing to the mentally/developmentally disabled.  They are very aware of their conditions, and most are very insecure about it. Especially because of derogatory comments and gestures used in our society that are degrading to them.  Using this word is the same as using other words for other groups of people. Use your imagination.

  5. I think they take things more personally.

  6. I am sure they do to a point. That does not bring them down though. They can still bring a smile to their face, and enjoy life.
