for instance if someone begins to eat 2,000 calories a day, will their metabolism rise to meet this? if so, how long with this take?

i know you would initially gain weight, but would it stabilize?

  1. Yes. Your body will put on fat and that fat will increase until it reaches an equilibrium...Use this formula..

    4.54(weight pounds) + 15.8(height inches) - 4.92(age) + 5(for men -161 for women) =

    Basal metabolic rate....

    Asuming that the height and age remain the same and the basal remains the same(2000 calories in your example) then the weight will increase until the formula balances...

    140 pound

    64 inch

    18 year old

    4.54x + 15.8(64) - 4.92(18) + 5 = 2000

    solve for x

    and you will find that this person will hit 236 pounds before they balance out.
